Kick-Off Workshop onGood Mining Governance

On December 14, 2016, Govern4Afg conducted a Kick-off workshop for the research and dialogue process on Good Mining Governance which is a continuation of the research in the previous round of Govern4Afg entitled “A Balancing Act for Extractive Sector Governance”. The event was held at AREU headquarters, Kabul. Govern4Afg aims to gather current work flow processes within and collaboration among the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum (MoMP), Ministry of Finance (MoF) and Afghanistan Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (AEITI). This will help develop concrete points that need to be discussed in the research paper that will respond to the challenges of the extractive industry governance. An important discussion outcome was the stakeholders’ and Govern4Afg expert team’s common understanding that the current paper shall provide a policy framework to address the gaps among the private sector, the MoF and the MoMP. There were 12 representatives who attended from GIZ, MoF, its Afghanistan Revenue Department (ARD) and Large Taxpayers Office (LTO), Medium Taxpayers Office (MTO), AEITI, Small Taxpayers Office (STO), and MoMP which facilitated a lively and fruitful discussion.
